Capturing this engagement session at Cooper Landing was such a special experience. There’s something truly magical about photographing a couple in a place that holds so much significance to them! Kate and Shawn’s engagement session at Cooper Landing was precisely that, one of those occasions where everything comes together just right, allowing their story to resonate in the very surroundings they love.

Cooper Landing isn’t just any backdrop, it’s a place filled with memories for Kate and Shawn. It’s where their adventures together have unfolded over time like fishing trips, camping weekends, and quiet moments by the fire. Naturally, it made perfect sense for them to choose this beautiful spot to capture their engagement photos! It’s one thing to photograph a couple, but it’s another to capture a piece of their history…

Kenai Lake

Our adventure began at the shores of Kenai Lake! Shawn was in his element, steering us out on the water with a natural ease that only comes from familiarity. It was clear that being out on the water wasn’t just a favorite pastime for them, it was part of the foundation of who they are as a couple and I loved being a part of it!

As a photographer, it’s always exciting to capture authenticity such as moments that aren’t overly posed but rather simply happen as they would if I weren’t there. And with Kate and Shawn, the moments flowed effortlessly. After our time on the lake, we made our way back to shore just as the sun began to go down. This transition from daylight to dusk provided such rich and warm light perfect for some more intimate shots.

The Brewery

Our day concluded with an easygoing time at Cooper Landing Brewing Company. Over a couple of craft beers, Kate and Shawn shared stories of their relationship and dreams for their wedding. It was a laid-back ending to a day filled with shared laughter and excitement about the future! Sitting there, surrounded by locals and a cozy ambiance, it felt less like a photo shoot and more like hanging out with old friends and I LOVE when I get to do that with my couples.

Reflecting on the session, it’s clear that Kate and Shawn’s love for each other is deeply intertwined with their love for the places they’ve explored together. Cooper Landing was the perfect location for them adding depth and a sense of belonging to every photo. It was an honor to have been a part of capturing these memories.
