Weddings come in all shapes and sizes, but Chelsea and Deji’s was truly unique. They decided at the last minute to get married at Chelsea’s Godmother’s family homestead in Homer. It turned out to be the perfect choice. It wasn’t about fancy decorations or big venues, it was a place full of personal meaning and connection.
The day was a bit of a surprise. The fog rolled in just before the ceremony, hiding the view of Homer that Chelsea and Deji had hoped to share with everyone. They were streaming the ceremony live for friends and family who couldn’t be there! I was there to capture it all on camera.
Despite the fog, the ceremony was beautiful. It was all about Chelsea and Deji, surrounded by a handful of their closest family members. They laughed, cried, and made promises to each other that really showed their love. These are the moments I aim to capture, real, genuine emotions.
Interestingly, after they turned off the live stream, the fog began to clear, almost as if it was giving them a private moment with their guests. The view was stunning and felt like a special reward for those who were there in person.
Once the ceremony was over, the mood was relaxed and so joyful. There was a spread of homemade pastries and fresh lemonade. Chelsea and Deji mingled with their guests, sharing stories and laughter, completely at ease. It was the kind of easygoing celebration that showcases what weddings are truly about, love and cherished time with family and friends.
I managed to capture some wonderful shots of Chelsea and Deji during this time. Chelsea was barefoot in the grass, looking radiant and carefree, while Deji was trying his hand at pouring drinks with more enthusiasm than skill. These candid moments might not have been broadcast, but they were certainly the highlights of the day.
Reflecting on Chelsea and Deji’s wedding, it wasn’t about what was missing or the unexpected weather. It was about the closeness of family, the simplicity of the setting, and, most importantly, the love between two people starting their journey together. The day was perfect in its own way. “Laurel did a magnificent job taking our wedding pictures. The whole process was so seamless! I arrived to our beach wedding she had been there early taking pictures and getting the most perfect shots. The pictures turned out so beautiful.”
