Hint: It involves glaciers, sea otters, and the best pizza of your life)
Let’s skip the “close your eyes and imagine” bit. Because if you’re here, scrolling through posts about eloping in Alaska, I’m guessing you already have a mental Pinterest board full of wild landscapes and helicopter vows.
But there’s a difference between daydreaming about it—and knowing what it would feel like to actually do it. To step out of your cozy Airbnb on a cool morning in Homer, hop in a helicopter, and marry your person on a glacier with nothing but wind, laughter, and sea otters in the background.
So, let me show you what that looks like—with the help of Dylan and Kayla.
If you’re new here, Hi, I’m Laurel – your personal Homer elopement tour guide, long time local and strong advocate for getting married your way. If you are considering eloping in Kachemak Bay and would like to know more about what working together could look like, check out my website here.
Dylan and Kayla flew across the country from New York with a specific idea: Get married on a glacier. In Alaska. With zero fluff. That was the vision.
Not a “run away and figure it out later” type of elopement—but an intentional, carefully planned experience that still felt natural and un-staged. Alaska gave them exactly that. And Kachemak Bay? That gave them access to some of the most jaw-dropping, soul-stirring locations you’ll find in this entire state.
They started their day the way most of us wish we could on a wedding day: calm and unhurried. Getting ready in their Airbnb, no one rushing them, no awkward small talk with extended cousins they hadn’t seen since middle school. Just them.
By late morning, we headed to The Spit (if you know, you know), where the bay air hits a little different and the anticipation builds fast. I showed them a few of my favorite spots (like the shore of the harbor), and we made a quick stop at a local coffee stand for some chai to go. When their helicopter was ready for us—because yes, this was that kind of elopement— we lifted off over Kachemak Bay.
Here’s where it gets wild (literally): we flew over pods of sea otters floating like they had nowhere to be, and spotted bears roaming the mountain side like a local tour guide. Nothing about it felt curated or forced—it just was.
Our first landing was on an unnamed glacier—a pristine patch of ancient ice that probably doesn’t even show up on Google Maps. The wind was strong, the landscape was surreal, and there, right in the middle of it all, they read their vows.
No audience. No distractions. Just the sound of boots crunching on ice and promises floating into the wind. It was equal parts cinematic and grounding.
After the ceremony, we explored the glacier, carefully stepping around deep crevasses and icy blue ridges that looked like something out of a sci-fi movie. The photos? Unreal. The moment? Unrepeatable.
Next, we flew to an alpine lake tucked up in the mountains—same helicopter, totally different vibe. This spot felt quieter. More intimate. The kind of place that makes you speak in hushed tones even when there’s no one around.
They laughed, walked through wildflowers and soaked it in. And I got to photograph every single second without feeling like I was intruding. That’s the thing about eloping in Homer, Alaska—it gives you space. Space to breathe, to connect, and to let the day unfold at its own pace.
After the flights, the vows, and the glacier wanderings, Dylan and Kayla changed into something a little more comfortable and made one last stop: Finn’s Pizza.
No, really. This is a thing. Private dinner, best pizza in town (ask any local), sparkling wine in hand, looking out over the water with that “we just got married on a freaking glacier” look on their faces.
Because when you elope on your own terms, you also get to celebrate on your own terms. Whether that means five-star dining or casual slices with a view.
Maybe you’ll take a similar route—start the day slow, fly across the bay, and say your vows on a remote glacier. Or maybe you’ll kayak to a quiet cove, bring your dog, and end the night by a beach bonfire with your favorite playlist.
That’s the beauty of it: you get to design the day around who you are.
So if you’re craving a wedding day that’s more “chopper over sea otters” than “centerpieces and seating charts,” this part of Alaska is calling your name.
And I’d love to help you bring it to life. Go ahead and share what you’re dreaming up, here!

“Laurel did a magnificent job taking our wedding pictures. The whole process was so seamless! I arrived to our beach wedding she had been there early taking pictures and getting the most perfect shots. She did a great job organizing all of our wild families to get a group picture, and telling us different couples poses to do. The pictures turned out so beautiful.”
