Many wedding photographers are used to tight timelines, bustling venues and long guest lists, but Aaron and Inna’s Alaska elopement was an adventure for just the two of them! Their elopement story really started when they hopped in their truck to embark on a road trip from Saskatchewan, Canada, all the way to the end of the road… Homer, Alaska. And let me tell you, being part of that day was pretty special.
The road trip they took must have been something else, just the two of them and the open road, seeing amazing sights and getting more and more excited for their destination. For Aaron and Inna, Homer turned out to be the perfect spot for their big day.
On the day of their wedding, the sun was bright, the wind was blowing, and the mountains were showing off per usual. They chose to exchange their vows on a bluff overlooking Kachemak Bay, with the snowy mountains and the ocean right there in the background. The ceremony was short and sweet, with just Aaron, Inna, Darrel (their officiant), and myself in attendance. As they exchanged vows, it genuinely felt like the world fell away, leaving just the sound of the ocean and the breeze.
After the ceremony, Darrel took us across the street to The Driftwood Inn to sign the marriage license. Once the paper work was complete, we headed back out to the bluff for a champagne toast and soaked up some sun.
Then it was off to The Spit to take more photos. I grabbed shots of them as they explored, joked around, and took in the sights. I got to share so many of my favorite spots with the two of them, from one side of the harbor to the next, then to the beach. And, in true Homer fashion, we even got permission to hop on a local sailboat and snap some pictures on board. They both fit so perfectly into the many incredible backdrops that Homer has to offer.
Taking photos at Aaron and Inna’s elopement was the kind of gig that reminds me why I love this work, the chance to capture moments that matter, to capture small chapters in big stories and adventures.
